Shandong Pengxiang Auto Selects Allison Transmission’s 4800 Off Road Series for its Wide Body Mining Dump Trucks

Thanks to their superior performance and unrivalled reliability in any rough terrain, Allison’s 4800 Off Road Series (ORS) fully automatic transmissions have once again been chosen by Shandong Pengxiang Auto for their latest wide body mining dump (WBMD) truck.

Shandong Pengxiang Auto Selects Allison Transmission’s 4800 Off Road Series™ for its Wide Body Mining Dump Trucks

Shandong Pengxiang Auto is a renowned Chinese truck OEM specialized in making WBMD, which is a heavy-duty, off-highway truck used for transporting rocks and ores in open-pit mines. The WBMD truck features a higher loading capacity compared to standard dump trucks. It is usually operated on undulating routes with potholes, obstacles, slopes and curves.

“After working with Allison for nearly a decade, we have realized that Allison Automatics are the best transmissions we have ever installed, without any doubt,” said Liu Bing, Head of Mining Truck R&D Division of Shandong Pengxiang Auto. “Our trucks are designed to operate in very harsh conditions all the time. By integrating Allison’s advanced technology, we have produced trucks that can work longer and more efficiently in the most severe environments. With a wide range of choices, a customized Allison transmission can match well with any specific requirements of our clients.”

Pengxiang’s two new WBMD models, with GVW of 90 ton and 96 ton, are coupled to a 382.4kW diesel engine (YC6K1352-50) rated at 2402Nm torque and an Allison 4800 ORS fully automatic transmission with Power Take-Off and a retarder. Thirty units of the 90-ton WBMD trucks have been delivered to Sinohydro Bureau. Another 20 units of the 96-ton have been delivered to a mining site in Inner Mongolia.

Designed for the large load haul dumpers, all-terrain mobile cranes, concrete mixers and construction specialty trucks, the Allison 4800 Off Road Series offers increased productivity, improved reliability and reduced operating costs for heavy-duty, high-power applications. The hydraulic torque converter provides smooth and constant power to the wheels, meaning your truck can maneuver through loose gravel or sand. The retarder also reduces brake usage by providing auxiliary braking on downgrades, giving you precision control on tough terrains even when the truck is fully loaded on upgrades or at low speeds.

The PTO feature allows ease of integration and reliability, so you can handle any job, anywhere. With Allison’s FuelSense® 2.0 packages, you can achieve increased fuel economy by implementing preselect request to avoid shift cycling automatically, based upon duty cycle and GVW status. To address increasing productivity and with a shortage of heavy-duty truck drivers in mining industry, Shandong Pengxiang Auto has also started the development of driverless WBMD equipped with the Allison 4800 ORS. The prototype is currently under testing.

“Allison Automatics are the best choice for our new autonomous WBMD in terms of proven technology and cost-saving,” said Liu Bing. “Due to its advanced electronic control unit, Allison fully automatic transmissions can be easily integrated into the autonomous drive and central body controllers. It responds very smoothly and efficiently to the orders.”
