EXPANSION IN THE CONSTRUCTION MACHINERY SECTOR: AKASOL SUPPLIES HIGH-PERFORMANCE BATTERY SYSTEMS FOR KTEG

AKASOL AG has signed a strategically important framework agreement with KTEG GmbH for the delivery of the high-performance battery system AKASystem OEM PRC. KTEG will equip over one hundred small excavators of the type KTEG ZE85 with this system. The framework agreement is valid up to and including 2023.

“We are delighted to be working with KTEG to drive forward the electrification of construction machinery. With the concluded framework agreement, we are expanding our successful cooperation with one of the largest and most successful special construction machinery manufacturers in Germany and proving once again how variable and reliable our lithium-ion battery systems can be used,” says Damian Nungesser, Head of Sales Off-Highway at AKASOL.

The powerful battery system enables a runtime of around six to seven hours in operation and around four hours under continuous extreme load. For fast charging of the battery, a Combined Charging System (CCS2) is used, which is now also standard for electric passenger cars and is easy and safe to use.

The AKASystem OEM PRC battery system produced at the AKASOL plant in Langen is installed in the excavator's superstructure and has a very high energy density combined with very good charging and discharging performance. It also enables fast charging, which can be elementary, especially in the construction sector, if the excavator has to be charged during short breaks. Back in 2018, KTEG and AKASOL presented the first prototype of the ZE85 compact excavator in the 8 to 9 ton class at the "bauma" construction machinery trade fair.

“We have found the perfect partner for our electrified construction machines in AKASOL. AKASOL is established on the market and supplies battery systems that meet the highest quality and safety standards. Especially on inner-city construction sites, electrified excavators offer several advantages. Compared to excavators with diesel engines, CO2 as well as noise emissions are significantly lower,” says Felix Hornstein, Head of Construction at KTEG.

The site in Langen has a production capacity of 800 MWh, which is fully installed. High-performance battery systems have already been mass-produced here since 2017.
