WAE Technologies is showcasing state-of-the-art electrification solutions to accelerate the off-highway sector's decarbonisation journey.

WAE Technologies will showcase off-highway electrification solutions at Electric Mine 2023
  • WAE Technologies will be attending The Electric Mine, Arizona, between 23-25 May
  • Owned by mining giant Fortescue, WAE is supporting its ambition to deliver a
  • zero-emissions mining fleet by 2030, by supplying innovative battery power systems and solutions
  • WAE’s t team is supporting a range of cutting-edge electrification technology and will be showcasing a rugged DC-DC converter
  • Dave Rawlins, Head of Engineering Technology, WAE, will also be delivering a presentation on how WAE approaches the electrification of off-highway projects

Held in Arizona from 23-25 May, The Electric Mine is the world’s only global mine electrification event and WAE will be using the expo to show its leading electrification technology, which has been specifically developed for the use cases of mining and other off-highway applications.

Following its acquisition by Fortescue Metals Group at the start of 2022, WAE – a leader in high performance battery technology developed originally for global motorsport and road car programmes – is becoming a leading supplier to the off-highway sector, using its expertise to support Fortescue in its transition to a global green renewables and resources company through the decarbonisation of its worldwide vehicle fleet.

In June 2022, Fortescue announced a partnership with Liebherr, who will be using their T264 mining haul truck to integrate zero emission power system technologies – developed by WAE Technologies.

WAE’s line-up at The Electric Mine 2023 will include a DC-DC Converter, featuring a ruggedised design developed for off-highway vehicle applications. WAE’s DC-DC Converter is a 600kW 1.5kV – 1kV stepdown converter for high power loads. Its Silicon Carbide (SiC) technology delivers exceptional efficiency of 98.5%, while full power operation takes place at ambient temperature of 50oC.

In addition to the electrification innovation on display, WAE’s Head of Technology, Dave Rawlings, will be giving a presentation entitled “From Racetrack to Remote – Racing to Save the Planet”.

During this presentation Dave will provide an overview of how electrification of off highway projects is being approached by WAE; a company born from motorsport and recently acquired by Fortescue, a global leader in green energy and technology. It will describe the major barriers and potential benefits to off-highway EV adoption, while Dave will also provide insights into the unique vehicle characteristics and infrastructure needs for off-grid and remote environments.
