The most successful large crane of all time – 600th Liebherr LTM 1500-8.1 mobile crane delivered to Crane Korea

Just four years after Liebherr delivered the 500th LTM 1500-8.1, the 600th has now been handed over in a special ceremony. The crane was delivered to Korean crane contractor Crane Korea Co. Ltd, where the new 500-tonne machine will replace an LTM 1400/1. The LTM 1500 8.1 is the most successful telescopic crane in its segment and has gained Liebherr a delivery record in the large crane class.

22 years ago Liebherr first unveiled its 8-axle LTM 1500-8.1 mobile crane at the Bauma 1998. With its high lifting capacity, enormous reliability and mobility on the road and on site, it has developed into a popular crane for a very wide range of uses. Ten years later in 2008, Liebherr celebrated the sale of its 200th LTM 1500-8.1. The delivery of a further 100 machines took just two years. The 400th crane was delivered three years later in 2013.

The owner family visited the Liebherr plant in Ehingen to take delivery of their brand new LTM 1500-8.1. Jung-Geu Park, President of Crane Korea said: “The new crane will fit perfectly into our fleet which ranges between lifting capacities of 30 to 1200 tonnes and will replace an old LTM 1400/1. The LTM 1500-8.1 is a reliable crane with high lifting capacities. Its highlight is its 84 metre telescopic boom. The Liebherr 500 tonne crane has a very good reputation and there are over 60 of them currently in action in Korea”.

Crane Korea bought the LTM 1500-8.1 with a full equipment package – 50 metre and 84 metre telescopic booms, a 91 metre luffing jib and Y guying. It will mainly be used for industrial construction work and in refineries.

Crane Korea Co. Ltd employs 30 people and operates 26 mobile cranes, including several Liebherr machines. A new LTM 1130-5.1 is currently en route to Korea. Jung-Geu Park continued: “Liebherr mobile cranes hold their value very well and have a high resale value. Liebherr also provides us with very good after-sales service in Korea and we look forward to continuing our good relationship”.
